How to add a Forecast Resource

In this article we will review how to add a forecast resource. Your project Forecast is created when you activate your project and the Forecast Resources are a copy of your Budget Resources upon activation. As your project progresses, you might want to add or change your forecast resources to accurately reflect who will be doing the work and which resources will be utilized for your project. Remember, your Forecast is used for Workloads and to budget project work.

You should also already have a budget set up and the project activated to create a forecast. If you need help setting up a budget, please search setting up a budget to review that information.

Let's start by navigating to the projects screen by using the top navigation bar and selecting the projects tab as highlighted below.

Once in the projects screen you will want to select or navigate into the project for which you would like to change your forecast.

TO ADD A FORECAST RESOURCE - Navigate to the blue + Forecast button in the top right of your screen as highlighted below.

You will now see a prompt for creating a new forecast resource. Select the type of resource you would like to add to your forecast, then based on your selection it will give you the categories available for that resource type in the next drop down menu.

If you selected Personnel as your type and then a category with an assigned employee you will get the option to select the employee from a third drop down menu. You can always forecast personnel resources by category, but if you would like to forecast them as individuals this is the way to do it.

Once you're done with your selections don't forget to hit the green Add Forecast Resource button to save your selections.

You'll then be taken back to your project where you can view your newly added forecast resource within the forecast socket and add forecast dollars or hours associated with each project scope element for your new forecast resource.

As a final step in setting up your forecast lets go ahead and click the More button in the top right as highlighted below.

Then select Reset Forecast, this will reset the forecast to remaining values if employees or expenses have already been added against the resources you are forecasting for. Be sure to do this anytime you want the most up to date forecast for your project.

Once you have all your budgets in place you can set your forecasts by clicking the more button near the top right of your screen as highlighted below. Then select Reset Forecast which will update all your forecasts to current budget and work entries if time sheets have been input. We'll go over time sheets in the next getting started guide.
